Description:

Today there was a recent update of mplayer:

local/mplayer 29188-2
A movie player for linux
local/mplayer-plugin 3.55-1
mplayerplug-in is a browser plugin that uses mplayer to play videos from websites.
local/mplayer-skins 0.3-1
Additional Skins for the MPlayer

And it looks like I lost gmplayer:

% which gmplayer
gmplayer: Command not found.

Notice that I also tried mplayer -gui:

% mplayer -gui
The -gui option will only work as the first command line argument.
MPlayer UNKNOWN-4.4.0 (C) 2000-2009 MPlayer Team
MPlayer was compiled WITHOUT GUI support.
137 audio & 296 video codecs

And it indicates that mplayer was compiled without gui support. I suppose it might have been a compilation miss...

This change was intentional.

Ups, I didn't see any arch-news regarding it, sorry. So what's the way to do things now? I noticed there's a smplayer package, but just by the name I can't guess it provides the gui interface...

BTW, why was gui interface dropped from mplayer package?

The gui interface was dropped because most people use mplayer from commandline. The GUI included with mplayer sucks and better frontends are available anyways.
