seems it just automagically started to work after some trials.

Also try to don't use hidden networks, it causes also errors.

it still works today. iwconfig shows essid, but iwlist wlan0 does not shwo my essid. Maybe that is as it should be.

BTW, what is a hidden network?

You may close this bug. If it would start to fail, I can always revert to madwifi-newhal-svn.

Some routers allow to set the network hidden, means you cannot scan for the network name.
Linux can have issues with this method of pseudo securing a network.
