I fixed it on my side by rebuilding it with yaourt -Sb awesome

it doesn't need libxcb AFAIK, only xcb-util which is included in the dependency via startup-notification.

I remember seeing some similar kind of error with the previous mismatch between awesome 3.2 and xcb-util 0.3.4 but this should not happen with the 3.3pre version.

As I cannot test it atm, what version of xcb-util do you have?

xcb-util 0.3.4-2

And according to readelf -d it does require libxcb:

libxcb.so.1 libX11.so.6 libpangocairo-1.0.so.0 libpango-1.0.so.0 libgobject-2.0.so.0 libgmodule-2.0.so.0 libglib-2.0.so.0 libxcb-randr.so.0 libxcb-xtest.so.0 libxcb-xinerama.so.0 libxcb-aux.so.0 libxcb-keysyms.so.1 libxcb-icccm.so.1 libxcb-atom.so.1 libxcb-image.so.0 libxcb-shm.so.0 libxcb-property.so.1 libxcb-event.so.1 libcairo.so.2 libxcb-render-util.so.0 libxcb-render.so.0 libstartup-notification-1.so.0 libImlib2.so.1 libxdg-basedir.so.1 libev.so.3 liblua.so libm.so.6 libdbus-1.so.3 libc.so.6

oh yeah sorry, libxcb is pulled in via xcb-util.

I can't replicate your problem on x86_64. Which architecture are you using?
