I experienced few font glitches with the newly patches freetype2 (2.3.9-2). Single font characters seemed to show wrong glyphs, none of them from the usual ASCII range. E.g. "v" was substituted by a character somewhat resembling "œ".

The problem existed in both Qt and Gtk applications, even though the problems seemed to differ from app to app (different characters were bogus).

I solved the problem by downgrading to the old freetype2:
[2009-05-03 15:04] upgraded freetype2 (2.3.9-2 -> 2.3.9-1)

I can't reproduce this problem, what fonts do they appear with?

Note that -2 is a security update that shouldn't affect font rendering.

Sorry for the delay, I was away for a few days. You were right about this patch not being the reason. The corruptions seem to creep in over time and it was not downgrading freetype2, but restarting X which 'fixed' the issue temporarily. I will investigate further, but this bug is certainly invalid.
