Details

Description:
When I start X on my Toshiba laptop, X starts distorted.
No xorg.conf, auto detection
Strange is that mouse cursor looks OK

Additional info:
Intel Corporation 82852/855GM, xf86-video-intel


Steps to reproduce:
Start X
X starts, mouse cursor is shown OK
Then background appears distorted, like this

Additional comments about closing:  use xf86-video-intel-legacy instead of -intel solve this
