which architecture? I can't replicate it on my x86_64 machine.

i686 driver nvidia 180.44
Same problem also in gentoo ~x86 and debian sid i386 (same machine, different nvidia drivers)

I tried it on my i686 laptop with intel-legacy driver and it works there fine too. Given that it also happens for you on gentoo and debian sid are you sure it isn't a configuration or hardware issue ?

After recent updates (qt4.5.1 and many other packages) on my debian sid, now stellarium 0.10.2 work fine again with no problem.
With Ubuntu 9.04 work fine, never see this visualization problems.

In archlinux and gentoo (updated now to qt-4.5.1) the problem remain the same.

Stellarium work fine before, no changes in my pc, only packages upgrade.
