Description:
after updating vlc to recent version, 0.9.9a the user interface stopped working, strange skin appeared and console displayed this errors:

Steps to reproduce:
upgrade vlc without upgrading qt.

Steps to fix:
after upgrading qt to recent version (4.5) it went back to normal

Possible fix:
upgrade qt version that vlc depends on in vlc package dependencies

Updating only part of your system is bound to cause problems...

I think keeping clean information on what qt version vlc needs would avoid that problem. Informations on dependencies in package descriptions are there for a reason.

I agree that -Syu would be nice, but I am not an administrator and I don't do it on daily basis. Just because vlc was sometimes acting strange when playing triplej stream is not enough to justify dropping all the work I'm doing and dealing with new issues introduced by whole system update.

Maybe the package should specify what the versions of min libs needs, like some others them.

But as said Allan, is not a good idea to update the system in some parts.
