Your X log is from 1.5.3, you're not running 1.6.1.

thats odd...pacman said my local copy was 1.6.1, maybe I just grabbed an old log file.

I will do this again when I get home today and attach an up-to-date log file.

You might want to uninstall the unichrome driver and use openchrome instead.
The unichrome driver is maintained in git and hasn't had releases for years. The current package is a git snapshot and can break, depending on many different things.

I will check it out, thanks

you also might want to try building the latest git snapshot from abs by changing the git version to 490802fc227b0e1a8fc45d4f5576d45459a5bfb6. The snapshot we use is from december, there have been several commits in the repository after that.

I have actually been using the openchrome driver for awhile now. I recently had troubles logging into KDE, so tried some different drivers to see if that fixed anything.

I am not overly concerned at this point as I can log into xfce fine.

Any advice on what the best way to "auto-configure" a xorg.conf file?

Usually I run 'X -configure' to get an autoconfigured file /root/xorg.conf.new, but since it causes problems in your case - did you try to run Xorg without any config file? (recent versions work well without it in most cases)
Some people use hwd for generating xorg.conf but I cannot comment on how good generated files are.

Unfortunately my laptop caught fire, so I will never be able to test this :(
