Not sure if this is a related bug, but solution is the same

gdal-grass in community breaks latest gdal completely.

causes a malloc error in when gdal binaries (e.g. gdalinfo) attempt to load the plugin

Rebuild of gdal-grass from abs resolves problem.

I just checked it and it looks like it doesn't need a rebuild. Can someone confirm?

OK. I'll rebuild it. I didn't thought searching in /usr/share for binaries.
