Description: After updating to the git build of hal, xorg (xfce, specifically) will no longer start. It pops up a message claiming "Failed to execute dbus-launch...", followed by a message relating to the xfce settings daemon failing to load, and then dies. After reverting to the hal 0.5.11, xfce loads perfectly as user, using:

"exec ck-launch-session /usr/bin/startxfce4"

and "startx"

The issue also exists as a fresh user to the system. I could not get xfce to load without the ck-launch-session bit either, and attempting startxfce4 directly. It was confirmed that both the dbus and hal daemons were loaded properly.

Additional info:
* hal-0.5.12git20090406.46dc48-1

Works for me on both i686 and x86_64 with and without ck-launch-session, same apply to kde and gnome.

do you restarted the hal or reboted the machine?

See log files if encounter a message that can help.

This is weird, as the xfce settings daemon shouldn't have anything to do with hal.

I'm confirmed, after updating to the git build of hal, xorg will no longer start.

Yeah, I have not seen anything similar. The dbus daemon was running (and of course, hal), but the xfce session could not connect to the session.

There were similar reports on IRC (with gnome as well), so hopefully more information will appear. I did indeed try rebooting, but the issue was not cleared up (as hal/dbus were running for certain). As soon as I reverted hal + hal-info, and made no other changes to the configuration, xorg launched without any error. Automounting, input devices, etc. all work as expected.

OK, I have stopped dbus/hal, updated the packages, and restarted, and xorg loads fine. I have no clue why it wasn't doing it on the fresh install properly, and I can't reproduce it.

Sorry for the noise ;)
