Details

Description:
Error starting gnome-sessing: .dmrc
Changing mode to 644 - file ~/.dmrc + chmod 644 ~ doesn't solve the error message.
What does work is removing the blank line within the file .dmrc:
sed -i '/^$/d' ~/.dmrc ->>> adding to /etc/rc.conf

Why the OS is putting a blank line each time after closing down and restarting i down't know
version ArchLinux:2.6.28-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT

Additional info:
* package version(s)
* config and/or log files etc.

Steps to reproduce:
Each time i remove the blank line at the beginning of the .dmrc (ctrl-alt-f1) en start gnome ... no problem ... If I leave the blank line in -> error regarding .dmrc

...

Remke Schuurmans

Where do you get this error message? I use gdm and also have this blank line in there every time, but there's no problem launching gnome-session.

I got the error message after login using gdm.
for me the solution with removing the blank line worked.

I have stopped using ArchLINUX for now. at the moment i'm using Fedora 10/11.
(at work we are implementing fedora ... so @home i use now fedora ...)

with kind regards,
Remke

Is this still an issue with gdm 2.28? I can reproduce the blank line in ~/.dmrc, but this has never been an issue here.
