I had to install manually pyxdg (perhaps it can be a dependency of totem package) then it works.

i can confirm that opensubtitles plugin requires pyxdg
Also, the plugin fails to work if "~/.cache/totem/subtitles" is not present, as opensubtitles.py fails to create it.

This issue still exists as of 2.28.1-1 on x86_64. By installing coherence from the AUR and dbus-python from [extra], I can generate a whole new error. I'll work on figuring it out before posting it here.

Sorry, I wasn't clear before: installing coherence and dbus-python solves the original error and a subsequent one, then the new one emerges.

It was this issue: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/coherence/+bug/352653 . As this has not been solved upstream (tried using svn) and involves aur packages, I'm going to contact the PKGBUILD contributor and ask them to add a patch (or something along those lines). Incidentally, the plugin itself loads after using the dbus coherence file workaround but still doesn't work properly for me.

Sorry for all the commenting. I keep getting ahead of myself. I've adopted the coherence package and added the fix, so now the only issue is that totem would have to depend on coherence (now in the aur) for upnp to be selectable. I'll leave that up to the proper authorities.

Seems to have been patches. Can you confirm if this is still an issue?
