Description:

When I was typing in a line on the command line, I decided to bring up the editor by 'ctrl+x+e' and thought it was funny that bash told me that emacs was not found. I located emacs in /etc/inputrc and changed it to vi. Since people have to learn a bit of vi when installing, wouldn't it be better to use vi?

bash suggests emacs by default. This has nothing to do with installation at all, but bash's default. This is easily changable by setting the EDITOR environment variable.

Try adding EDITOR=vi to your ~/.bashrc

Huh, didn't know that emacs was default. Getting used to Arch using defaults and I like it (means usually less troubleshooting). Thanks. Requesting closure.

Yeah bash is a GNU thing, thus they default to GNU apps... i.e. emacs
