DetailsDescription:
I wasn't sure whether to post this as a bug or mention it on the forums, but I figured it was big enough to warrant a bug report for consideration before it goes to extra. The nvidia drivers currently in testing completely break support for agp bridged pci-e cards, as stated by one of the nvidia devs here: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=130440&highlight=180.41 If you are using one of those cards (which I suspect a decent number of 6xxx-7xxx agp cards are) and install the 180.41 drivers, X will fail to load and the nvidia drivers will report that the card is no longer supported by the drivers even though the devs say otherwise (and some similar, non-bridged I guess, cards work fine). I've not tested the beta driver at this time, but it will probably work, judging by the dev's comment about it being fixed in another release. "Zeb" on the aforementioned link had the same issue, but the 185.13 drivers work fine. Additional info: * package version(s) nvidia 180.41-2 * config and/or log files etc. I don't have my specific log files still, however this one from the thread above is identical, as we had the same issue before I reverted: NVIDIA: could not open the device file /dev/nvidia0 (Input/output error). (EE) NVIDIA(0): The NVIDIA GPU at PCI:1:0:0 is not supported by the 180.41 (EE) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA driver. (EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA graphics device! (EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration. Steps to reproduce: Install nvidia and nvidia-utils from testing, using presumably any (based on the non-use of the word "some" by said nvidia dev) agp bridged pci-e card. |
