It works fine here. I don't think that it has an effect but I use the testing repo. Is there anything special about your setup (especially video-related) ? You could use gdb or strace to get more debugging information.

xaos-3.4-1 works fine in my i686 machine.

I'm sorry, the problem is that I'm using a tiling window manager (xmonad). Xaos works fine under the xfce window manager. I'm not sure why it didn't occur to me to check. This is clearly an upstream bug, so I'm requesting closure.
