> pacman -Si oss
Depends On : gcc make kernel-headers module-init-tools libtool sed

are these all really makedepends?

I think it is a good idea to install base-devel as one of the first steps after a fresh install.
If this wasn't done, you can mark all packages from base-devel as explicitly installed : pacman -S --asexplicit base-devel

These are really depends because oss has scripts to recompile itself automatically when kernel is updated.

farid, you probably only had the development tools installed initially because of oss, this is the reason they were marked as orphans. Doing what Xavier said will stop this orphan complaint.
