Description:
I received the following error message when using tdb 3.3.0-1:
nmblookup: error while loading shared libraries: libtdb.so.1:

This message also followed nmbd, smbd and windbindd.

It turns out that the latest TDB causes everything to mess up as if the .so.1 file doesn't exist, or doesn't load correctly. It affects samba and lan networking in a big way.

I had to uninstall it and then select the older version before getting things working again.

I'm glad to give any other information if you tell me how to gather it.

Thanks.

Additional info:
* package version(s) tdb 3.3.0-1
* config and/or log files etc.

Steps to reproduce:
Boot and note problems loading daemons.
Open terminal and try to manually load.
Error message appears.

Is this with samba from extra, or samba from testing?
Comment by Greg (dolby) - Thursday, 19 February 2009, 20:19 GMT
Its from testing. samba in extra is 3.2.7
Comment by Mr. K. (KitchM) - Sunday, 22 February 2009, 14:56 GMT
Uh oh. Somebody moved samba 3.3.0 testing to extra. Big problem. This should have been fixed before doing that. I removed testing from my respository list, but now I suffered the problem again because someone thought the new version was okay. That's going to catch a lot of users. Now I've got to down-grade manually, and I know I'll have to check every darn time the system tells me that there are upgrades to install.

I hope someone can fix this.

Thanks.

 FS#13401  is the problem
Comment by Mr. K. (KitchM) - Monday, 23 February 2009, 21:20 GMT
Thanks, Grigorios. Nice catch. Since 13401 came after 13379, perhaps it should be merged with this one?

Also, if that is the problem, why was the package not fixed and allowed to be put in the mainstream repos? Anyone know who is supposed to watch this sort of thing? It was a real pain in the you-know-what to find the correct files and downgrade it to work again.

(Which also makes one wonder where the darn archives are kept.)

Assigning to tpowa as it's kinda samba related and tdb is an orphan

hrm the tdb package contains the files you refer too, and i also don't have the missing .so file here.
Does a reinstall of the package solve your issue?

Not fixed.

Re-opening. May be a mirror issue?
When reports are closed as fixed, please specify the version it is fixed in.
Comment by Mr. K. (KitchM) - Thursday, 26 February 2009, 20:21 GMT
Agreed, Aaron.

It turns out that upgrading to 3.3.1-1 solves the problem, so I guess it is fixed. Please go ahead and close it as you see fit.

Thanks again to all who worked on it.
