DetailsThe problem is :
When shutting down network interface using -- "/etc/rc.d/network stop" -- whose MAC address has been changed in /etc/rc.conf, a complaint of ifconfig will alway occur. /etc/rc.conf file: lo="lo 127.0.0.1" eth0="eth0 hw ether XXXXXXXXXXXX xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast xxx.xxx.xxx.255" INTERFACES=(lo eth0) In the ifdown() function of /etc/rc.d/network: changed the following section: # $new_ifline is "eth0 hw ether XXXXXXXXXXXX # xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast # xxx.xxx.xxx.255" , that will cause an error. /sbin/ifconfig $new_ifline down to: # $new_ifline is "eth0" now, that's fine. /sbin/ifconfig ${new_ifline%% *} down That is when shutting down an interface, we just need the first parameter(ie.the interface name) of the "ifconfig command" which was used to bring up the interface. |

No, it isn't. '/sbin/ifconfig $new_ifline down' is still used.
