The problem is :
When shutting down network interface using -- "/etc/rc.d/network stop" -- whose MAC address has been changed in /etc/rc.conf, a complaint of ifconfig will alway occur.

/etc/rc.conf file:
lo="lo 127.0.0.1"
eth0="eth0 hw ether XXXXXXXXXXXX xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast xxx.xxx.xxx.255"
INTERFACES=(lo eth0)

In the ifdown() function of /etc/rc.d/network:

changed the following section:

# $new_ifline is "eth0 hw ether XXXXXXXXXXXX
# xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast
# xxx.xxx.xxx.255" , that will cause an error.

/sbin/ifconfig $new_ifline down

to:

# $new_ifline is "eth0" now, that's fine.
/sbin/ifconfig ${new_ifline%% *} down

That is when shutting down an interface, we just need the first parameter(ie.the interface name) of the "ifconfig command" which was used to bring up the interface.
This task depends upon

No, it isn't. '/sbin/ifconfig $new_ifline down' is still used.
