I will sound incredibly ignorant but all I can say is that 0.1.9-1 showed a working framebuffer console with my ATI Rage Mobility M3 and 0.1.9-2 shows a messed up console where the letters are several character widths apart, the sides flicker and a bar down the middle shows text that shouldn't be on the middle but somewhere on the left. Uvesafb might be ignoring the mode I have set and trying something else, I don't know. All I know is that pkgrel 2 had different switches and going back to pkgrel 1 fixed it for me.
