The following bug was closed as fixed when it isn't:

FAAC does not work properly without this patch. For instance, FFmpeg will fall back on mp2 audio when encoding and muxing into a mp4 container. FAAC will allow to encode to aac without the patch, but will not encode into a mp4 container.

The check is simple, run faac --help. If one sees this, it's broken:

If one sees this, it's working properly:

-w Wrap AAC data in MP4 container. (default for *.mp4 and *.m4a)
