Description:
gnome-power-manager depends on gnome-panel which pulls in lots of gnome. As this appears to not be entirely necessary, it would be good if gnome-panel was made an optdepend.

This needs -Wl,--as-needed in LDFLAGS. libpanel-applet is only used by the gnome panel applets included in gnome-power-manager, but because we're linking whatever is in the linker flags when -Wl,--as-needed isn't set, it's linked to every binary.
I'm happy to implement this, not only for gnome-power-manager, but for a lot of other gnome packages.
