GDM no longer auto logins. Booting with run-level 5 and GDM setup via inittab. Additional info: * package version(s) gdm 2.20.9-1 * config and/or log files etc. see attached. 1. inittab 2. gdm-debug.log Steps to reproduce: 1. Enable autologin from System -> Admin -> Login Window. 2. Under Security tab, enable automatic login. (I have also enabled debug messages to get the log attached) 3. Reboot. 4. but autologin sometimes works and sometimes fails. i have not found what could cause this
when autologin fails, i am dropped back to the console, and then X (and gdm) is restarted because i have setup gdm in inittab.
so i have an old log for xorg /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old which ends abruptly with this line
(II) Initializing extension GLX
it might not be related to GLX because in a complete similar log like /var/log/Xorg.0.log
i've got after that same line
(II) config/hal: Adding input device Dell Dell USB Keyboard
(II) LoadModule: "evdev"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input//evdev_drv.so
(II) Module evdev: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
compiled for 1.5.3, module version = 2.1.0
Module class: X.Org XInput Driver
ABI class: X.Org XInput driver, version 2.1
[...]
so i begin to think this mess is because of hal. which is normally already initialised... by the time gdm is launched
i use metacity now
