Description:
After I updated a bunch of packages with "pacman -Syu" (see below), SCIM (which worked yesterday) now refuses to start: > $ scim -d > Smart Common Input Method 1.4.7 > > Launching a SCIM process with x11... > Loading socket Config module ... > Creating backend ... > Loading x11 FrontEnd module ... > Failed to launch SCIM. I tried rebuilding the package using ABS, but that didn't help. Additional info: * package version(s) scim 1.4.7-1 * config and/or log files etc. From /var/log/pacman.log: [2008-12-30 16:48] starting full system upgrade [2008-12-30 16:50] upgraded blas (20070405-1 -> 20070405-2) [2008-12-30 16:50] upgraded zlib (1.2.3.3-2 -> 1.2.3.3-3) [2008-12-30 16:50] upgraded openssl (0.9.8i-2 -> 0.9.8i-3) [2008-12-30 16:50] upgraded ca-certificates (20080809-4 -> 20080809-5) [2008-12-30 16:50] upgraded dbus-glib (0.76-1 -> 0.78-1) [2008-12-30 16:50] upgraded diffutils (2.8.1-5 -> 2.8.1-6) [2008-12-30 16:51] upgraded libxml2 (2.6.32-5 -> 2.7.2-1) [2008-12-30 16:51] upgraded gconf (2.24.0-1 -> 2.24.0-2) [2008-12-30 16:51] upgraded libtasn1 (1.5-2 -> 1.7-1) [2008-12-30 16:51] upgraded gnutls (2.4.2-1 -> 2.6.3-1) [2008-12-30 16:51] upgraded gtkspell (2.0.13-1 -> 2.0.15-1) [2008-12-30 16:51] upgraded xaw3d (1.5-4 -> 1.5E-1) [2008-12-30 16:51] upgraded gv (3.6.6-1 -> 3.6.6-2) [2008-12-30 16:51] upgraded hal-info (0.20081022-1 -> 0.20081219-1) [2008-12-30 16:51] ==> Run 'hwd -u' to update xorgtable, pci-, and usb.ids. I have the same problem. My arch install is fairly new, though,
and I have never had SCIM working.
Please test with scim-1.4.8-1 in [testing]. See
http://www.archlinux.org/pipermail/arch-general/2009-February/003805.html
for more details.
I haven't tried the new version, but now scim 1.4.7-1 launches
without protests again, so the error seems to have been caused by
some other package which has been fixed now.
