I was just reading through the download functions. It occurred to me that it is possible to remove the libfetch/libdownload dependency by configuring with --disable-internal-download. This would be beneficial to frontends which do not want the extra dependency just for downloading. Unfortunately the only alternative is to use an external process to do the downloading instead. Would it be possible to have a third method, one which simply uses a callback function to let the front-end handle downloading?
