Since the update to xorg-server 1.5.3-4, my system completely freezes when starting X, requiring a hard reboot. I downgraded to 1.5.3-3 and now everything is well again.

I run KDE 4.2 beta 2, desktop effects are turned off. My graphics card is an onboard Intel GMA 950. In xorg.conf exa, dri, aiglx and compositing are enabled.

The only "real" error /var/log/kdm.log recorded is:
(EE) intel(0): tried to update DSPARB with both planes enabled!

I have searched all my old logs and never experienced such an error.

Please attach xorg.conf, and Xorg.0.log or Xorg.0.log.old, whatever log contains a trace of your problems.

Here are both files. I had not attached Xorg.0.log.old because it does not show anything wrong.

I had so many issues with xorg 1.5 (mostly direct rendering) during the past weeks that I downgraded to the 1.4 series. I tried 1.6 from git, but it is too much of a moving target. I think I will just wait for 1.6.

Should I close the bug? Or would you like to follow up on this? If yes, I would upgrade again to do further tests. Thanks for the help.

Can you try the new intel-dri package I released a few minutes ago?

Wow, this solved it! No crash whatsoever. :) Thank you so much for this incredibly fast solution! (I will probably downgrade again, though... compositing is awfully slow.)

Take care,

mutlu
