Description:

Gnome clock applet doesn't display the weather in the panel (it does when I click on the clock and it displays the calendar)
The "show weather" setting in the preferences doesn't work (it does change somewhat the display of the time (changes spacing, as if displaying an empty image?, but doesn't show the weather icon)

Reason for closing:  Works for me
Additional comments about closing:  Check /etc/rc.conf for a valid timezone if this issue comes back after a reboot.

When you click on the clock, there's a menu coming out with location and weather on the bottom. Is there a home icon near the location? If not, move the mouse over it and a "set" button should appear.

Here's a screenshot of the applet as it shows on my screen.

Can you click the set button to set it as default location? AFAIK that icon only shows up for the default location.

Ok, I clicked the "Set" button, it asked for my password, and now the weather shows. I guess that solves the bug for me :)

The question that remains is why the hell does displaying the weather require administrative rights? But I guess this question is more for the gnome devs than for the arch packagers.

Clicking the set option changes your system timezone, that's why it requires authorization. I don't know if your fix is permanent, as rc.sysinit sets the timezone at bootup everytime you reboot.
