Many big distros (Ubuntu, OpenSuse, Debian, Mandriva) have already adopted Go-OO (http://go-oo.org/) as their office suit. This spinoff adds a lot of performance and some extra functionality to openoffice.org, they also release under LGPLv3 instead of sun's licensing. Most of the aforementioned distros have OOo totally replaced by Go-OO in their repos, so many users aren't aware that they aren't using the official OOo. I just wanted to let the maintainer of the OOo package consider this :)

We have considered this a while ago. Actually, go-oo is just openoffice.org with a large bunch of patches. The most useful patches are integrated in our openoffice package. As for LGPLv3: the patches in ooo-build are LGPLv3, but the resulting OpenOffice.org build is still covered with whatever license sun puts on it. You can't simply relicense a project by forking it.

Arch philosphy is to ship vanilla builds wherever possible. So we do with OOo. I only patch it to make it build and fix essential bugs. And for every feature in the go-oo patchset there's a good reason why it's not yet in the Sun sources ;)

But feel free to maintain a source based go-oo pkg in AUR or grab one feature you need most....
