DetailsIt would be nice if Arch forums let you use gravatars for your avatar.
From the gravatar website... «A gravatar, or globally recognized avatar, is quite simply an avatar image that follows you from blog to blog appearing beside your name when you comment on gravatar enabled sites.» Here's some references: http://punbb.informer.com/forums/topic/5352/atom/ <- I didn't look into this closely, but it seems to be a plugin to allow it. http://en.gravatar.com/site/implement |

We like to keep things as vanilla as possible, mind. ;-)
I don't say that they do it, but it is quite easy to see when a certain users visits which site (and because the whole referer is sent one new which topic he actaully watches.
Sorry, I had to point this out. But I could imagine an implementation which just loads the avatar image from gravatar ONCE (e.g. with an option in the users profile) and store it on our server.
http://ianpurton.com/integrating-gravatars-into-punbb-forums/ this is close, except we don't want to just do it if there is no avatar set (to assuage Pierre's concern). We'd want it to be configurable.
Alternatively, if we could set it up you can use an avatar from a URL, we could just tell people to use something like:
http://www.gravatar.com/avatar.php?gravatar_id=<md5sum goes here>&size=80
What's your opinion? "Patches welcome"?
