Description:
There is a bug in last nvidia-96xx drivers (ver.96.43.09-1). This driver has font rendering problems on cards - GeForce2 MX/MX 400 and also other(geforce 4 mx 460,GeForce Ti 4200,...) - see attached picture. There seems to be same problem also in nvidia-173xx drivers with GeForce FX 5600.
Maybe there is one possibility how to "solve" it for now - by enabling antialiasing and subpixel hinting of fonts.

This is solved in the 180.11 drivers. Alternativly you could use the nv driver from xorg.

I don't know how many users are affected by this problem, but you may for example to release add stable drivers (96.43.07) not beta (96.43.09) from nvidia...

Afaik those drivers do not support xorg-server 1.5.3.
