Hi, I can't install 'openbox' or 'obconf' as due to xfree86 conflict with xorg. Is there a temporary workaround?

Hm, I just set up a box with xorg and openbox. There have been no issues, since xorg provides xfree86.
[tobias@buran ~]$ pacman -Qi xorg
Name : xorg
Version : 11R6.7.0-1
----snip-----------
Provides : x-server xfree86
----snip-----------
Conflicts With : ttf-bitstream-vera xfree86

There are also a lot of other packages around which still depends on xfree86. New strategy is that all those packages will eventually depend on "x-server" which will be provided by either, xorg and xfree86. If installing continues failing, which is an issue I can not reproduce here you can try to rebuild openbox from abs and replace the depends of xfree86 with x-server.

Hi Tobias,

Thanx. Perhaps my install method was the problem:

1. Boot minimal install cd (0.6)

2. /arch/quickinstall method

3. boot into minimal base install

4. pacman -Sy obconf

5. ERROR: can't install obconf and openbox due to xfree86 conflict with xorg

I wonder if the fact that obconf/openbox is going in _before_ xorg is the problem(!?). I was just hoping that by installing the pkgs I actually wanted, then, the depends would happen automagically.

I understand your point and I realize that the depends are in a limbo until the xservers get standardized.

Thank you.
