DetailsDescription:
The man page that comes with package "tar" is very outdated (1993). The man page comes from the Debian and not from the upstream. Debian has a more recent version (2007), which documents many additional and useful features. This recent man page can be obtained from the following link: http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/main/t/tar/tar_1.20-1.diff.gz The man page is between lines 928-1314 of the above document (which is Debian's patches to the upstream). Note: I know this does not really qualify as a bug however I first tried flagging tar out of date and explained the situation but the package maintainer (whose judgment I trust) told me to report it as a bug instead. Additional info: * package version(s) 1.20-2 * config and/or log files etc. Steps to reproduce: man tar |
