Details

After a recent update, X doesn't work any more:
I can't move the mouse cursor nor type anything with the keyboard (not even ctrl + alt + backspace). I need a hard reset to reboot.

It happens just right after I type `startx'.

I have an old nvidia geforce 4 mx 440 with 64 mb of ram and I am using the nvidia-96xx-* packages.

Yes, that was it. I disabled the input hotplugging crap and everything works ok.
