Importing Pyste.* works fine here. I don't know python or boost, so I can't test further than this. Note that boost 1.37.0 is out already, so we might want to upgrade and build it against python 2.6 at the same time (note: please use testing, this breaks backwards compatibility again)

I get /usr/lib/python2.5/ files. IMO, that should be reason enough to rebuild against 2.6, regardless of compatibility. It just seems sloppy to ship packages built against older python, don't you think?
