What is broken with this? As far as I can tell, no rebuild is necessary.

uhm...I look at "/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/mpd.py is owned by python-mpd 0.2.1-1"

Is installed in /usr/lib/python2.5, isn't this wrong?

/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages is in the python system path so having file there does not automatically mean a rebuild is needed.
