I've just seen the wiki page for VMWare install, and it is written that if you get an error message you should install these dependencies. I'm new to Arch Linux, so I don't know what exactly is the philosophy on this point (slackware's resolve yourself dependencies or other's autoinstalling dependencies) but I think these two packages should be installed.
