Hi,

Please add the '-g' option to the start() in /etc/rc.d/ntpd script so that any 'grossly' out-of-sync clocks will be corrected. This option is a one-time-only parameter per each run of ntpd, thus, any syncing after that initial '-g' will be slewed rather than stepped avoiding large jumps during compiles, etc. This seems to be the preferred method as 'ntpdate' is deprecated by 'ntpd -q' and this will allow for proper time at system boot.

-g Normally, ntpd exits if the offset exceeds the sanity limit, which is 1000 s by default. If the sanity limit is set to zero, no sanity checking is performed and any offset is acceptable. This option overrides the limit and allows the time to be set to any value without restriction; however, this can happen only once. After that, ntpd will exit if the limit is exceeded. This option can be used with the -q option.
