and upon restarting I faced a number of problems(see: http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/11721 and http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/11722) which i fixed locally, although they might be universal, hence why i posted them..

then i had the problem of not being able to boot gnome.. so after deleting all config files, /tmp/* and trying a lot of other stuff i had luck with reinstalling gnome with pacman -S gnome.

i then launched an xserver(startx) with just a terminal and launched gnome-session from that one to look for errors. now gnome starts up(it no longer just hangs at the gnome splash screen indefinitively) but i get this msg:

(I launch it from an xterm in bare X)
kris ~ $ gnome-session
Advarsel fra vindushåndterer: Feil under lesing av lagret sesjonsfil /home/kris/.config/metacity/sessions/10e0cfada67676431e122391969891655700000071810011.ms: Feil under åpning av fil «/home/kris/.config/metacity/sessions/10e0cfada67676431e122391969891655700000071810011.ms»: Ingen slik fil eller filkatalog

** (nautilus:7213): WARNING **: libgnome-desktop-2.so.2: cannot open shared object file: Ingen slik fil eller filkatalog
[...]

"no such file or filecatalog" in english..

Now, even though i get this error, gnome actually starts up now, but the first discrepancy i notice is that i can't change the icons of the desktop to another theme :/
This task depends upon

and ofc i can probably just make a link to libgnome-desktop-2.so.2 but that wouldn't be fixing it for real now would it? :)

right, i must amend myself. i thought i made a link to libgnome-desktop-2.so.2 but actually did not(tired me) but it still worked... maybe it was the restart that fixed it, i don't know. in any case, now i've made a proper link(sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libgnome-desktop-2.so.7.2.3 /usr/lib/libgnome-desktop-2.so.2).. don't know what it does or if it does anything though...

What are you actually trying to say here with that symlink?
You freaked out your system yourself by force-installing dbus-core and then installing dbus, so this whole bug makes no sense, as it's a result of your actions.
As for nautilus, it links to libgnome-desktop-2.so.7, not libgnome-desktop-2.so.2 as you state in your bugreport. You did an incomplete system upgrade, so I don't consider this a bug.

One thing that could help you as startx user out though is that gnome-session doesn't handle dbus start anymore. You need to start dbus from .xinitrc if you don't use gdm to launch gnome.
