Description:
When I try to insert a text object and I choose a font from the choice, nothing happens. I simply can't change the font! The font listbox behaves strangely in general. When I select some text and try to change the font of the selection, it is impossible for me.

Anyone else has these problems? I can't find this bug on Inkscape tracker...

Additional info:
* package version(s)
Inkscape 0.46 (Sep 4 2008)
* config and/or log files etc.

Steps to reproduce:
Open Inkscape, hit F8, click to some place on the screen and type some text. Then try to change the font of that text, try to write something else etc.

I have this problem on Arch but also remember having it on an old version of Mint so it seems like an upstream bug...

i686, 0.46-10, confirm this.
It's no #10765 bug. Inkscape no crashes, just impossible to change font.

Indeed.
However, you can use Ctrl+Shift+T to do the desired stuff.
Here is the upstream report that does not seem to interest anybody:

It doesn't work only in one case: if you start entering the font name with the keyboard then confirm with the mouse, or just use key down/up to select the font.
Note that the caret stays in the edit box so the selection isn't yet accepted!
Press enter and the font will change. The good old enter...

For me this isn't a bug. The caret staying in the edit box says without a doubt that the user hasn't confirmed the choice.

Nevertheless sometimes it behaves bad.
And it's not the only control with problems in this Inkscape version (0.46-11, mine is i686).
Given that I rarely use Inkscape, I can't collect a list.

The described behaviour sounds like upstream oddness. Make sure they are aware of it before 0.47 hits the shelf
