pcmanfm should depend on FAM or gamin (a subset of FAM that provides it), for those who using FAM is an overkill i.e: dwm, xmonad, wmii users.

I've packaged a pcmanfm-gamin version over here: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=19991 but the only thing I've changed is the dependency in FAM.

I think this should be implemented in the "community" version of pcmanfm.
This task depends upon

Reason for closing:  Won't implement
Additional comments about closing:  Already depends on 'fam', which is provided by gamin.

I don't see the point. If you like to use gamin instead of fam you just install it and it should work. The official package should IMHO never depend on gamin as gamin only provides a subset of the features FAM does.

Andrea, whatever you decide, I suggest removing pcmanfm-gamin from AUR as we have ABS for these kind of things.

The gamin package provides fam anyway. I use gamin myself... and already had this discussion with pcman, who agreed with me.
I accept to add an optional dep on gamin for next release if you think that's necessary.
But unless you provide new elements to depend on gamin instead of fam, I'll close this task and remove pcmanfm-gamin from AUR as it doesn't provide any feature (one should just install gamin instead of fam and the [community] package works fine) within a few days.

@gcarrier: my suggestion was exactly that, the package pcmanfm-gamin doesn't provide anything new, I was looking for an "install time" way of not pulling FAM with pcmanfm, maybe adding it as an optdepends and putting a small postinstall message on the matter of the existence of gamin :)

Fell free to shut the package down, I wasn't saying that pcmanfm should depend on gamin instead or FAM, only that there should be and "easy way" (that's why I think the post install message and the optdepends) on not having to use FAM.

"pacman -S --asdeps gamin" before or after "pacman -S pcmanfm", without "--asdeps" if one doesn't care about reverse deps on it...
Neither optdepends or postinstall will make anything "easier".
Plus, as "postinstall" is concerned, it has been chosen somewhere on the archlinux mailing lists (recently) to stop using them as much as possible. It became a mess for nearly nothing.
I'll add gamin as an optdeps to "promote" it, even if it doesn't mean much from a strict point of view as the dependency is already covered with deps=('fam').
