[xxx@xxxxxxx ~]$ uname -a
Linux xxxxxxx 2.6.26-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Sep 9 01:05:04 MDT 2008 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
[xxx@xxxxxxx ~]$ scanimage
P6
# SANE data follows
202 150

<followed by pages of garbage>
[xxx@xxxxxxx ~]$

Works for me on Arch 64, I use my scanner all the time. I had an issue like this after installing Samsung printer drivers, it added a line to my /etc/sane.d/dll.conf file. If you haven't already, check the /etc/sane.d/dll.conf file and make sure !everything! but the backend you need has been commented out.

Good luck,

are you using kvm modules?
if you run virtual machines with kvm it segfaults here always too.
