Description:
Using the latest ATI drivers catalyst 8.8-1 and kernel kernel26 2.6.26.5-1 X11, composite and everything works except for video playback. Mplayer, totem and vlc all display choppy, distorted and flashing static and other colors constantly during playback. Per the advice of http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=53937 I have added nopat to my boot options without change. I was able to boot into a virtual Windows XP and play the same file simultaneously on the host and guest using VLC with the picture being displayed clearly in the VM and continuing the choppy mess on the host.

Additional info:

Using the -vo x11 option in mplayer the video is not choppy, but resizing the window does not resize video.
