Description:
With the new xf86-video-ati package, I got corruption when playing video (especially with large video file like 720-1080p HD file) and using application that use overlay. I don't have any of these problems with the old xf86-video-ati 6.9.0-1.

Reverted back to xf86-video-ati 6.9.0-1 or recompiled the 6.9.0-3 with the git patch removed fix the problem for me. So I guess the cause of the problem here is the git-20080827.patch.

I didn't experienced any problem or regression with the patch removed, so I guess it is safe to remove it?

Additional info:
* package version(s)
- xf86-video-ati 6.9.0-3

* config and/or log files etc.
- None

Steps to reproduce:
- Upgrade to xf86-video-ati 6.9.0-3 and try to play large video file, or use program that use overlay for a considerable amount of time. Noticed that after a while the output becomes corrupted.
- Reverted back to 6.9.0-1 or recompile 6.9.0-3 without the git patch and noticed that the problem is now gone.

Ah wait, I now got some artifacts/corruptions with stalonetray.

Great, so now it's either random artifacts with stalonetray or the corrupted XV/Overlay output...

I have switched to Xfce4 and Xfce4 + Compiz Fusion and have noticed no artifacts/corruption in both cases. So maybe this is just a problem with Stalonetray?

Erm... Maybe I didn't make myself clear enough. I can confirm that the problem is still present with xf86-video-ati version 6.9.0-3.

In fact, like I just said in the bug report, upgrade to 6.9.0-3 causes this problem for me.

In order to "fix" this problem, I had to reverted back to the old version (6.9.0-1).

...or remove the git-20080827.patch from 6.9.0-3.

Ah, I see now that my second comment about Xfce4 might be the causes of the confusion. In that comment, I'm referring to the artifacts problem with stalonetray using the old 6.9.0-1 driver, not the issue with XV/overlay in 6.9.0-3.

Sorry about the confusion, but the issue with XV video and overlay is still present in 6.9.0-3. So please don't close this bug report.

Please report your bug upstream and give as much information as possible. In the meanwhile, I'll release xf86-video-ati 6.9.0-4 which has the git snapshot patch disabled.

Since xf86-video-ati 6.9.0-4, dual head is once again broken with my xpress 200M.
Now, I know why :) I reverted to my previously built git package.
In the hope that git patches will re-enter xf86-video-ati soon.

Thanks for your hard work

Thank you JGC and sorry for taking so long to respond. I'll report the bug upstream in a day or two after I'm done with my final exam tomorrow.
