DetailsDescription:
Hi Jan, I know you try to get rid of the static libraries where appropriate, but I just found out that blender needs libfreetype.a. They ship with sources of all kind of packages but not for freetype. So it becomes a lot of hassle to build blender and libfreetype.a in one package. If yopu don't mind I would like to have that included again. Thanks. PS. I cheated on the curretn blender build so any user whou will try to rebuild it for themself will fail. |

Blender should link with -lfreetype, not by linking to a libfreetype.a file. This can be fixed in blender itself.

one of their make targets is fixed to /usr/lib/libfreetype.a. It seems all pretty hard wired to me and a bitch to fix. having libfreetype.a make sthings way easier for now.

Changing it to /usr/lib/libfreetype.so should work fine.

But the real question remains unanswered: will it blend?

It doesn't. Jan changing these lines does not work and blender fails. You can give it a shot and build blender, once it craps out you grep -r 'libfreetype.a' src/ and change things. It really is a bitch to change. Note that the build system is a different one for 64bit because I only have a 32 bit machine.

Attaching a simple patch to make it link with freetype.so. Builds and works correctly here.
