Have you tried recompiling amsn against the latest tcl/tk to see if that fixes the problem?

Yes Sir, I sure have and that three times for amsn-svn and once for amsn. I have even removed all of amsn and rm -rf $/.amsn* and recompiled and I have done that on two computers. On both computers the only fix is downgrading tk/tcl. I also tried to run gdb --args wish amsn, but the computer froze and I could not generate a bug report but had to do ctrl+alt F2 and kill amsn and gdb. And I have been Googling and I spent two hours chatting on FreeNode #amsn and they had no clue but to contact the package builder. After some three, four hours I came to think of the recent tcl/tk upgrade as the guys on #amsn insisted that I should install tcltsl which did not exist for archlinux. When I searched it on Google I was directed to Tcl SourceForge Project.

Try with tk-8.5.4-2 which is making its way onto mirrors now...
