Summary and Info:

At present, the normal screen output after a sync (e.g., following "pacman -Syu") shows the status of each local repository then reports "local database is up to date". It would be good if the date and time were shown on that final line so that the next time I run pacman, I would see the date and time of my previous sync attempt.

Note that I always run pacman from a dedicated console window -- actually, a yakuake console -- so the screen output of my previous sync attempt or pacman action remains displayed. I'm not sure this would be as useful for those who open a fresh console when the want to run pacman. Maybe it would help some other people, though.

What's wrong with
tail /var/log/pacman.log

Thanks for the suggestion, which is a good one. I know that the info I'm talking about is readily available in pacman.log, but, lazy person that I am, I'd just like to see the date and time of sync reported along as part of the sync report. Besides the convenience of seeing it there on the screen when I think of doing another sync (and I tend to sync a lot more often than necessary), it's useful information that would make the screen output more meaningful.

I just don't think this has any place in pacman output, as it is meant to be an interactive "I know when I'm doing this" type thing. Why not add the current time to your prompt, that way you can see when the command was run or something?

I guess my attitude toward putting the date and time in the prompt is the same as yours regarding pacman output: I don't want my prompt to be cluttered with extraneous info (that I can get from glancing at the panel or desktop). But, hey, it's not a big deal to me. I suppose if I wanted to I could write a script that would run a pacman sync and display the time, or display the tail of pacman.log.
