what exactly is xscreensaver.kpp?
Comment by Elias Guerrero (hyp0luxa) - Friday, 16 July 2004, 19:52 GMT
xscreensaver.kpp is a KDE screensaver file which allows you to use xscreensaver through KDE's screensaver interface.

do you have a URL for it? googling returns nothing.
Comment by Elias Guerrero (hyp0luxa) - Saturday, 17 July 2004, 04:57 GMT
it's part of the source. If i do a vanilla ./configure, make, the kpp file gets built.

and if i build it using makepkg and the abs PKGBUILD i get the following:

/bin/install: cannot create regular file `/var/abs/local/xscreensaver/pkg/opt/kde/bin/xscreensaver.kss': No such file or directory

####################################################################
Warning: unable to install /var/abs/local/xscreensaver/pkg/opt/kde/bin/xscreensaver.kss
/var/abs/local/xscreensaver/pkg/opt/kde ($KDEDIR) does not exist.
####################################################################

but it still makes the package

ok, building kdeartwork myself, using the abs PKGBUILD, and xscreensaver installed has resolved the issue. Now all xscreensaver savers are available in KDE's screensaver applet. Might i suggest a rebuild of the kdeartwork package on a machine that has xscreensaver installed, so that the necessary applications (kxsconfig, and kxsrun) and all the .desktop files for the xscreensavers are included in the package. Thanks.

can you please try testing this with Arch's xscreensaver package installed? I'm curious if the .kss file caused kdeartwork to find the screensavers.
Comment by Elias Guerrero (hyp0luxa) - Sunday, 18 July 2004, 16:32 GMT
no, kdeartwork configure just checks for 1 xscreensaver, flame. that determines if the xscreensaver files get built. the .kss file is not needed.

Lou,

please install xscreensaver and rebuild kdeartwork when you get back.
Comment by Dale Blount (dale) - Thursday, 22 July 2004, 17:57 GMT
Lou,

I also added the xscreensaver.kss file to kdeartwork's repo CVS.
Please copy this file into /opt/kde/bin in kdeartwork's PKGBUILD, and rebuild with xscreensaver installed,

Thanks.
