DetailsDescription:
I believe that gnome-speech should depend on espeak. I say this because it is unusable in its current configuration - it comes with festival-synthesis-driver, but in order to use it you must install festival and a voice. If gnome-speech were to depend on espeak, and not have the festival synthesis driver, it would be able to be used right out of the package without needing to be recompiled with espeak installed so configure can pick it up. Additional info: I think that espeak should be chosen over Festival due to its small size and responsiveness. Also, it does not need any extra dependencies such as a voice, because they're all included in the package itself - and in a pile of languages. I desire this feature because I am blind, and this would help me, along with others, to get a usable system that would talk in less time. |
