DetailsDescription: Xorg will not start with nvidia drivers enabled. It gives me a blank screen, my monitor shows "Digital, Power Save Mode" and it goes to sleep, as if the graphics card sends no signal. After that, Ctrl+Alt+F1 does not get me back to the framebuffer. Ctrl+Atl+Del is all I can do (reboot).
Additional info: * package version(s) My kernel is the most recent one from testing (but i have also tried the stable): Linux gandalf 2.6.26-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Jul 24 22:12:30 CEST 2008 x86_64 AMD Phenom(tm) 9850 Quad-Core Processor AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux. Nvidia drivers version is nvidia-173.14.09-5 from testing (but i have also tried the stable). X.Org X Server is 1.4.2. *hardware Graphics card is an Nvidia GeForce 8500GT. Monitor is an LG Flatron L227WT. * config and/or log files etc. I am attaching five files (some of them are from working configurations) for comparison. Pls see whichever you consider relevant. Steps to reproduce: I have been struggling with this problem for about a month, since I bought my new PC. For a moment I thought my xorg.conf file had to have a mistake in it, but then I remembered that nvidia drivers had worked fine on Mandriva Linux 2008 Spring on this computer. So I copied mandriva's xorg.conf and tried to start X in Arch with this configuration, but it failed again. Other than that, I have tried many things: I have found my Monitor's HSync and VSync settings in its manual and set them correctly in xorg.conf. I have created my own Modeline for the resolution 1680x1050 @ 60 Hz with gtf. I have used Mandriva's Modelines. I have tried switching "UseEdidDpi" to both true and false. I have used a DVI and a VGA cable to connect the monitor with the graphics card. No matter what I do, X is stuck at the same point (as the log shows): (II) resource ranges after preInit: ... ... [43] 0 0 0x000003c0 - 0x000003df (0x20) IS[B] There is no error (EE), I assume it just crashes. I should add that I am currently using the nv driver, which works as well as it can work. I have used nvidia-xconfig in order to try the nvidia-drivers, but also (as I said above) Mandriva's xorg.conf. I am attaching many relevant files. PS: I have searched the forums, nothing there helped me. I have never used Nvidia's installer and I don't intend to use it. PS2: I have just tried the Sabayon 3.5 Live DVD and my monitor goes to sleep at startx. I cannot see the logfile there, but I assume it is related(?) |
