DetailsDescription:
On intermittent occasions when rebooting my computer, a random one of the ext3 file systems isn't unmounted properly. On the next boot this causes a journal recovery, and possibly some file corruption. Unfortunately this problem doesn't seem to be consistently occuring, and nor have I identified any file corruption, but that doesn't mean there isn't any. I've looked into umount command, and have found that the -r option for umount does the following, according to the following: " -r In case unmounting fails, try to remount read-only." I've added that option to the umount command in /etc/rc.shutdown and have not encountered this problem since on the 4 to 6 reboots of my computer I've performed since. Obviously that doesn't mean that it's had an actual effect, however as it seems to me to that it won't do any harm, and possibly would do some good on occasion, I'd like to suggest that the -r option is added to the umount command in /etc/rc.shutdown i.e. /bin/umount -a -r -t noramfs, notmpfs, nosysfs, noproc instead of /bin/umount -a -t noramfs, notmpfs, nosysfs, noproc Thanks, Mark. |
