Gossip complains about missing libgnutls.so.10
latest is libgnutls.so.11 (with pacman -S gnutls [PKGBUILD of gossip doesn't require this!])
but what is more if you just ln -s
then you still get other errors.
I'm building with srcpac now, but this is not smooth update
This task depends upon

srcpac complained about me not having XscreenSaverSTH
well..
Comment by Nikos Kouremenos (zeppelin) - Friday, 09 July 2004, 20:22 GMT
ok, well with srcpac I still get the same error.
but it seems I needed the last loudmouth pkg [a lib that Gossip depends on]
but version in PKGBUILD is wrong

loudmouth>=0.15 should become loudmouth>=0.16
Comment by Nikos Kouremenos (zeppelin) - Friday, 09 July 2004, 20:22 GMT

run it from terminal to see such stuff. or else you'll notice that Gossip will never login :P
Comment by arjan timmerman (blaasvis) - Friday, 09 July 2004, 21:19 GMT
i tryed it here works fine, could you please strace it and mail me the output, migth find something more usefull that way :P
Comment by Nikos Kouremenos (zeppelin) - Friday, 09 July 2004, 21:28 GMT
strace won't help you. it doesn't freeze, gossip just donesn't connect [after correct loudmouth].

maybe you should pacman -Sy gnutls
to see it

I hope both loudmouth and gossip were built with LATEST gnutls.
this could be it.
I would go and try it, but I get this weird error about XserverThingMissingSomething(TM) that is passed in ./configure in the PKGBUILD?

anyways, get the latest gnutls, and we'll chat back in here.
Comment by Nikos Kouremenos (zeppelin) - Friday, 09 July 2004, 21:30 GMT
ok nothing interesting is passed on the ./configure

so just check with latest gnutls, and if it's there, maybe you should rebuild loudmouth and gossip [if needed]

if it works for you with latest gnutls, tell me about it, so I'll investigate more.

Gossip is just a GTK client. Psi is the master, but too QT to be true :P

:: gnutls-1.0.15-1: is up to date. Upgrade anyway? [Y/n]

so it is up-to-date ;)
Comment by Nikos Kouremenos (zeppelin) - Saturday, 10 July 2004, 12:54 GMT
wellllllllll.
what about PKGBUILD not demanding the RIGHT version of loudmouth? did you fix that?
Comment by arjan timmerman (blaasvis) - Saturday, 10 July 2004, 13:35 GMT
you aren't running an up-to-date system right ?
Comment by Nikos Kouremenos (zeppelin) - Saturday, 10 July 2004, 16:21 GMT
not so uptodate. eventhough I tried to update everything related to gnome and all libs*

anyways, I 'll do my best, but at least fix the loudmouth thing

eventhough pacman -Syu says:

GNUTLS ERROR: ASN1 parser: Element was not found

libtasn1-0.2.10-1

Nah, don't think that has something to do with that error message, don't you think? :P
Comment by Nikos Kouremenos (zeppelin) - Tuesday, 13 July 2004, 10:01 GMT
yes this fixed it. is this a missing dep or what? :P
Comment by Jan de Groot (JGC) - Tuesday, 13 July 2004, 17:21 GMT
We don't do versioned dependencies in arch, and when gnutls was upgraded, libtasn1 was upgraded also. You upgraded only one of them, causing these errors.
Please upgrade all packages before submitting bugreports in the future
Comment by Nikos Kouremenos (zeppelin) - Tuesday, 13 July 2004, 18:55 GMT
OK but:
a) you don't do versioned dependencies? BUT I've seen them!
b) what do you mean with gnutls I should have to go with libtasn1.?

when you do pacman -S gnutls (if gnutls *HAS* in his PKGBUILD the dep about libtasn1 >=FOO) then it won't work? I don't get it.

ok about the all bleeding edge
Comment by arjan timmerman (blaasvis) - Thursday, 15 July 2004, 08:56 GMT
what jan tryed to say we done add versions for every package.
only with the really major packages we add them so we do not get 1 miljon complaints ;)
i have add the loudmouth version dep but i won't add the libtasn version dep you should get that latest.
We as developers are running always the latest packages. that's why it is called current ;)
